Telenor network now supports VoLTE on more than 100 smartphone models

The list of devices that support the Voice over LTE (VoLTE) technology in the Telenor network now includes over 100 different models smartphones.

Among the new devices that support calls through 4G network and with HD quality are Huawei Mate 30 Pro, Y5 2019, Y6 2019, Y7 2019 and P smart Pro, Samsung Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy Note 10+, A51, A30s and A80, Sony Xperia XZ2 and XA2, and Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T.

With the new additions, smartphones by ten of the most popular smartphone brands, including some of the leading models by Apple, Sasung, Huawei, Honor and Nokia support VoLTE by Telenor.

Additionally, 49 models now support the Video over LTE (ViLTE) technology for video calls. The ViLTE technology is an extension to Voice over LTE (VoLTE) that adds HD video to the voice service over LTE. It does not require additional registration or a specific app and provides the security of the SIM-based authentication.

The main advantages of VoLTE include a shorter initial connection time, compared to the times in 2G and 3G networks. In addition, customers continue to use 4G mobile internet without interruption during calls.

VoLTE by Telenor is available to all residential and business customers, who have VoLTE-compatible devices with a 4G-enabled plan and are located within the operator’s 4G network coverage. VoLTE is not available to Telenor pre-paid customers and to corporate clients that use some specific business services.

To make calls with VoLTE quality, both sides must use the technology. The calls made through it are charged according to the customer’s mobile subscription plan and do not use the available mobile internet data. To take advantage of the capabilities of the technology, Telenor customers must activate the VoLTE option in the device’s settings.

Telenor was the first major mobile operator in Bulgaria to start a 4G network in 2015 and the first company to offer VoLTE in 2018 and ViLTE (Video over LTE) in 2019 to its customers. The expanded list of devices that support Voice over LTE (VoLTE) led to almost quadruple increase of the voice call minutes through VoLTE by the end of 2019 to reach above 12% of all voice traffic in Telenor’s network. In January 2020, Telenor’s network was named Best in Test in Bulgaria by the leading international mobile networks benchmark company umlaut.
