Telenor now offers Video over LTE (ViLTE)

Telenor now supports the Video over LTE (ViLTE) technology for its post-paid customers. The operator’s clients are the first in the country to enjoy more secure video calls with excellent network and picture quality through 4G network.

The ViLTE technology is an extension to Voice over LTE (VoLTE) that adds HD video to the voice service over LTE. It does not require additional registration or a specific app and provides the security of the SIM-based authentication.

The technology is already available to Telenor residential and business customers who have ViLTE-compatible devices, use subscription plans with 4G access and are within the Telenor 4G network coverage. ViLTE will not be available to pre-paid users and corporate clients who use certain business services.

Currently the technology can be used by the owners of 23 smartphone models. These are Huawei P20, P20 Pro, P30 and P30 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 edge, S8, S8+, S9, S9+, S10, S10e, S10+, Note8, Note9, A6, A6+, A8, J4, J6, J6+, A7 and A9.

In order to make a ViLTE calls, both parties must use the technology. The calls made through it are charged according to the respective mobile plan price list and do not use the available internet data. To take advantage of the capabilities of the technology, Telenor customers must use one of the supported devices and to activate the VoLTE option in the device’s settings.

Telenor was the first among Bulgaria’s major operators to offer 4G in December 2015. In 2016, the telecom started using carrier aggregation in the existing 4G network, which currently combines the 900MHz, 1800MHz and 2100MHz bands, a technology now popular in Bulgaria as 4.5G. Currently, Telenor’s 4.5G network covers 45 cities and winter and summer resorts across the country and is also available in 87 other towns and tourist destinations. In May 2018 Telenor first started testing VoLTE and in August 2018 expanded the access to the technology to all of its customers. Currently over 45 devices support VoLTE in the Telenor network.
