Safe internet means security, protection, and comfort, Telenor's Instagram campaign shows

"Security" is the word which young people most often use to describe the safe environment on the Internet. This shows Telenor Bulgaria’s campaign, which started on the Safer Internet Day - February 9 and ended with the Instagram "For a Safer Internet" campaign on February 16.

Within a week, Telenor challenged its Instagram followers to share a word that most accurately describe their security sense on the Internet.

Near 1,000 Instagram followers accepted Telenor’s challenge. One in five identified "security" as the most accurate word to associate with their sense of security in the online space. In the Top 5, the terms related to a safe internet are: "protection", "comfort", "safety", "parental control".

From a psychological point of view, the cluster of words used by Instagram followers to describe their sense of safe internet has a similar meaning and emotional charge and shows, on the one hand, the need for security, protection and parental control, and on the other, desire to satisfy these needs and recommendation for providing protection online. They can also be accepted as priorities that are valid to both young people and all other users of the digital environment when surfing the internet, having fun on social networks, or using digital products and services.

The Top 5 words of Telenor's Instagram campaign are an essential indicator and outline the direction in which companies should work to provide a high level of protection for their customers and users of digital products and services, thus providing high-end customer experience.

Safer Internet is one of the most sustainable social responsibility programs in Bulgaria, launched by Telenor 15 years ago.

As part of Safer Internet campaign, in 2020, Telenor organized Digital Scouts – an online competition, aimed to introduce to young people the dangers on the Internet and how they can protect themselves. The initiative took place in one single day and gathered over 17,000 participants from the whole country.

In 2020, the company also developed a series of educational videos providing information on the dangers online and ways to prevent them, aimed at young people, parents, and teachers. The videos are available on ottebzavisi.net.

Telenor's activities for a safer internet over the years also include development of a Dictionary of Social Networks and a Handbook of Types of Online Harassment.

In 2020, Telenor launched the online dangers protection service “Online protect”, which provides protection from different dangers online, including from viruses and other malicious software, phishing, spam sites, compromised sites and others. The service is easily activated and managed through the MyTelenor mobile app. It provides an easy way for clients to protect themselves and the people close to them, and it doesn’t require the installation of additional software because it’s integrated into the Telenor network. The service is part of Telenor’s long-term efforts to provide safer internet for its clients.
