Telenor awards more than BGN 90,000 to “Dimitar Blagoev” School in Provadia as part of the Digital Classroom contest

Telenor will grant a total of BGN 90,966 to “Dimitar Blagoev” School in Provadia for building an interactive centre with 3D and digital technologies. This is one of the two projects to be funded as part of the Digital Classroom contest in 2016.

The news was announced at an official ceremony held today at the school. Telenor Chief Executive Officer Michael Foley, the principal of “Dimitar Blagoev” School Mr. Yordan Mihalev and the Mayor of Provadia Mr. Filcho Filev attended the event.

‘We believe that building a high-tech environment in Bulgarian schools is essential to having an efficient learning process, nurturing innovation and creativity. That’s why last year we launched the Digital Classroom contest and opened it to all public schools in the country. I am very happy to say that this year the number of applicants has doubled reaching 80 schools from 41 towns which proves there is a great need for such initiatives. We will continue holding this contest annually as a core part of our corporate responsibility strategy,’ Mr. Foley said.

The funds provided by Telenor amount will be used to purchase interactive 84“ touch panel, touch tables, 3D projector, 3D printer, 3D camera and hybrid notebooks. The mobile equipment will be used in a multifunctional educational space with two working modules - digital and 3D room, which can quickly and easily be transformed into a common are for bigger events. All teachers and students will be able to use the new equipment freely which will facilitate and better visualize the teaching and learning process.

The second Bulgarian school that won funding in the Digital Classroom contest will be announced soon. The contest has a total budget of up to BGN 200,000 and each winning project receives funding of up to 90% of its total cost and up to BGN 100,000. The contest is held for a second consecutive year as part of Telenor’s corporate responsibility strategy focused on supporting young people and education in Bulgaria.
