Telenor extends 4G network coverage to over 6,500 km of roads in Bulgaria

As of end-April, Telenor 4G network coverage was extended to over 6,500 kilometers of the country’s main road.

Thanks to the company’s ongoing 4G network expansion and optimization program, Telenor 4G services are now available on more than 700 km or 95% of the country’s highways, as well as on more than 2,800 km (95%) of the first-class and over 3,000 km (77%) second-class roads in Bulgaria ¹.

Presently, Telenor 4G network encompasses 610 locations with population of more than 1,000 and also many others with smaller population, with 200 new locations added in the last few months. As of May 5, 2017, Telenor 4G network covers 89.06% of the country’s population ². The expansion and optimization of the Telenor 4G network are among the reason for the a 134% growth in the total mobile data usage in the company network in the first quarter of 2017compared to the same period of 2016. As of end-April 2017, data traffic via the company’s 4G networks comprises more than 52.5% of the total data traffic.

In order to improve customer experience and the service quality, as of today and until June 10, all Telenor residential post-paid customers who are still using non-4G enabled SIM cards may opt to replace them free of charge in any Telenor shops. The replacement is not mandatory and will not affect the existing user contracts in any way. All post-paid users may check if their SIM card is 4G compatible by sending a free text message to short number 144. Telenor would like to remind all users that beside a 4G-enabled SIM cards, they need to be within 4G network coverage, must use a compatible device and need to have 4G access in their subscription.
